Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 ending
World’s End was the epic conclusion to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4, drawing together the plotlines of Ghost Rider, AIDA, the LMDs and the Framework for a very satisfying finish.
Once you’ve watched the episode, you’ll want to scroll beyond our spoiler squirrel to see what the showrunners have to say about THAT ending…
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 finale cliffhanger
So, showrunners Jed Whedon and Jeff Bell have chatted to IGN about the finale. Was there ever a happy ending, where the gang don’t get kidnapped and taken to space after finally being reunited?
“It’s what it is,” said Bell. “There was not a nice quiet shawarma version of it where they go, ‘Oh, it’s nice to be together.’ It was always supposed to be, ‘Oh look, we’re finally together. Oh no, something bad happens.'”
And what about the glimpse after that, of Coulson bunking in space? How much time has gone by between the diner scene and this space-set stinger?
“We can’t say”, said Whedon. Bell then added, “We acknowledge there’s a time jump.”
And are they definitely, 100% in space? It’s not another Framework-style illusion? Is this a ‘bait-and-switch’ scenario, or the real deal?
“Bait-and-switches aren’t as fun”, Whedon teased.
We also haven’t heard the last of Coulson’s deal with the devil/Ghost Rider, by the sounds of it…
“We’ll find out more about it,” promised Whedon, “but I think it’s safe to say he made a deal with the Ghost Rider, or the powers behind him. We’ll see what it all means, but it didn’t come for free.”
