Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover story
Here’s the synopsis…
“DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) GUEST STARS AS THE MUSIC MEISTER IN THE FLASH AND SUPERGIRL MUSICAL CROSSOVER – Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end. Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing.”
Duet will be directed DC TV regular Dermott Downs, with Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Carlos Valdes, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, Victor Garber and John Barrowman all joining in with the singing.
David Harewood and Chris Wood will also appear, making “non-singing guest star appearances.”
Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover villain
Glee alum Darren Criss will guest star as the villainous vocalist the Music Meister, a role originated by Neil Patrick Harris in the animated series Batman The Brave And The Bold.
Thanks to some eagle-eyed Twitter users, some pictures of Criss on set have appeared online. The snaps reveal that his costume will be much less zany than NPH’s animated threads…
If you’re unfamiliar, the Music Meister uses his singing skills to hypnotise heroes, villains and ordinary people to do his bidding. He’s based on the Music Master character from the comics.
“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said to CBR. “We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”
Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover songwriters
Some very talented folk penned the songs for Supergirl and The Flash‘s upcoming two-part musical crossover.
CBR reports that Golden Globe-winning La La Land duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have written a song entitled “Runnin’ Home To You”, for Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen to sing.
And Buzzfeed broke the news that Rachel Bloom – star and creator of The CW’s excellent musical comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – has penned a song called “Super Friend”, which Gustin’s Barry and Benoist’s Kara will belt out.
Thanks to a report from Entertainment Weekly, we also know that Melissa Benoist will sing a cover of “Moon River” and Jeremy Jordan, Carlos Valdes and John Barrowman will sing/dance a cover of “Put A Little Love In Your Heart”.
Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover air date
The crossover will kick off with an end-of-the-episode scene on the March 20th edition of Supergirl, before concluding in the March 21st episode of The Flash. Those are the American dates; the UK airing should be roughly a week later.
