You’ve probably heard already that there’s a prequel to The Big Bang Theory in the works, and it’s set to focus on the early life of Dr Sheldon Cooper. Jim Parsons will executive produce the show, and we’ve found out today who will be playing his younger self.
Iain Armitage, who will soon be seen on Sky Atlantic in Big Little Lies, has nabbed the role. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the casting, and described the show as “Malcolm In The Middle but with a young version of Sheldon.”
Sheldon’s mum, Mary, has also been cast. Zoe Perry of NCIS and The Family has been cast as the Cooper family’s religous matriarch.
The show, which seems to be going by the simple title Sheldon, will be written by The Big Bang Theory‘s co-creator Chuck Lorre and its showrunner Steve Molaro.
This casting news seems to suggest that a pilot episode is on the way, but according to THR’s report, CBS hasn’t actually confirmed that.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
