The Punisher: Tyler Bates will score the show

Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle in Netflix’s The Punisher, which seems sure to pick up where the gun-loving vigilante’s arc left off at the end of Daredevil season 2.

Today, an interesting nugget of news has arrived regarding Frank Castle’s solo series: the musical score will be provided by Tyler Bates.

Bates is best known among Marvel fans for scoring Guardians Of The Galaxy and its soon-to-arrive sequel, creating the orchestral music that accompanies James Gunn’s ‘Awesome Mix’ song choices.

Film Music Reporter broke the news. And there’s not much to add really, besides stating the obvious: this is a very solid appointment by the Marvel/Netflix decision-makers.

Bates has also worked on Super, Slither, John Wick (and its sequel), Watchmen, 300, Atomic Blonde and The Belko Experiment, as well as the TV series Samurai Jack, Kingdom, Salem and James Gunn’s PG Porn.

Previously, some new images of Bernthal in a very comics-aping costume appeared online.

Since we don’t have an account with Getty images, you’ll have to click here to see the pictures. Sorry about that!

The Punisher filming

And here’s a fun fact for you: shooting has now finished on season 1 of The Punisher.

If The Punisher was a real person, he’d be gutted to hear that. ‘No more shooting?!’, he’d think. ‘But shooting is my favourite thing!’ (Arf.)

The cast and crew have had a wrap party, and now post-production is all that stands between us and some Marvel-approved bloodletting.

Marvel’s The Punisher release date

The latest announcement from tells us that the series “will stream globally on Netflix in 2017.”

That was the hot rumour anyway, but it’s nice to know for sure. We’ll let you know when they narrow it down to a month, a week or a day.
