Marvel's Runaways: James Marsters and more join cast

Runaways cast

The American online streaming service Hulu recently greenlit a pilot and full-season script order for a TV adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways comics.

The creators of Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are leading the charge, with help from Iron Fist scribe Tamara Becher. Marvel Television and ABC Signature are the companies involved.

Today, the adult cast has been announced. Fans of the comics will know they’re playing ‘The Pride’, the supervillain parents of the young leads.

TV Line reports that James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Annie Wersching (24), Kevin Weisman (Alias), Brigid Brannagh (Army Wives), Ever Carradine (Major Crimes), Ryan Sands (The Wire), Angel Parker (The People v. O.J. Simpson), Brittany Ishibashi (Emily Owens M.D.), James Yaegashi (Broadway’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s) and Kip Pardue (Ray Donovan) will all be providing grown-up villainy in the show.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage said this about the mass casting announcement: “This cast is an abundance of riches. We are so excited to have assembled our Pride, though for the fate of humanity we should be very concerned…”

Previously, the younger side of the cast was confirmed, with CBR sharing these official descriptions…

Rhenzy Feliz (of Teen Wolf [pictured above]) as Alex Wilder is a loud-and-proud nerd. Admittedly a bit of a loner, Alex spends much of his free-time playing video games, but deep down, what he wants most is to reunite his childhood group of friends.

Lyrica Okano (The Affair) as Nico Minoru – tough, intelligent, and independent–embodies teenage angst. A budding “Wiccan,” Nico’s carefully crafted goth appearance isolates her from her peers and family, but maybe what she really needs is someone to talk to.

Virginia Gardner (Goat) as Karolina Dean, model-perfect exterior with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile, is burdened by the lofty expectations and responsibilities put upon her by her parents. Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.

Ariela Barer (New Girl) as Gert Yorkes is a purple-haired, bespectacled, contemporary riot grrrl. Never passing up a moment to stand on a soapbox, Gert sometimes wields her persona as a brash social justice warrior to mask her true feelings.

Gregg Sulkin (Faking It) as Chase Stein is a lacrosse-playing, high school heartthrob. While many write him off as a dumb jock, Chase exhibits flashes of untapped brilliance in engineering, not unlike his wildly successful father’s.

Allegra Acosta (100 Things to Do Before High School) as Molly Hernandez, the youngest and most innocent member of her friend group, is known for her peppy positivity and a deep yearning to belong.

Runaways story

The Runaways TV show — adapted from the comic by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona (at one point in its run, Joss Whedon also wrote for the series) — tells the story of a group of diverse teenagers who discover their parents are part of an evil crime organiztion called “The Pride.” Though the six teens despise one another, they band together to investigate their parents’ nefarious plots.

Runaways release date

Since the show is only at the pilot stage right now, there’s no broacast premiere date set.
