Meg: Jason Statham vs shark movie scandalously delayed

UPDATE: We are in a foul mood. The greatest movie of 2018 HAS BEEN CALLOUSLY DELAYED BY FIVE MONTHS. Meg will now be released in August 2018, and we are sulking,

Previously…

If you’re looking for us on the morning of March 2nd 2018 (OR NOT AS THE CASE IS NOW – Ed), then you’ll be able to find us in the first available showing of Meg, a movie that seems to have been conceived with us purely in mind.

It’s the one where Jason Statham is set to do battle with an enormous shark, and just typing these words brings us out in the kind of glee that should be illegal on a Monday morning.

The film is being directed by Jon Turteltaub (who helmed the National Treasure movies, amongst many others), and it co-stars Li Bingbing. It’s based on the novel by Steve Alten, that goes by the name of Meg: A Novel Of Deep Terror. We’re in.

Filming is now underway in New Zealand on the film, and Warner Bros has released a first image and an official synopsis from the movie. We’ll do them in turn. Here’s The Statham in some excellent knitwear…

And here’s the synopsis…

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

We’re off to grin again now. AND SULK BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THE RELEASE DATE.
