Given just how acclaimed Shadow Of Mordor received back in 2014, it’s hardly surprising that it’s getting a sequel. Roughly a year ago, proof that Monolith was secretly working on a new Middle-Earth game emerged from an unexpected source: a web page listing the work of stunt actress Lauren Mary Kim. The mention of Shadow Of Mordor 2 was quickly deleted, but as is the way with the web, the leak was screengrabbed, shared, and the cat was well and truly out of the bag.
Thanks to US shopping outlet Target, some more details have seeped out about Monolith’s Mordor sequel – including its official title: Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War. Once again, the listing was quickly removed from Target’s website, but not before the web got wind of it, including Polygon and Gamespot.
According to the leaked info, Shadow Of War is out on the 22nd August for Xbox One and PS4; a date that hasn’t, of course, been confirmed as of yet. The listing also carried a blurb describing what happens in the game – so here it is in full:
Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses and dominate Mordor from within. Experience how the award winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth.
In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, nothing will be forgotten.
Finally, there’s also an early look at Shadow Of War’s box art, which looks appropriately dark and moody:
If Shadow Of War really is out this summer, then we should be hearing lots more about the game soon. We’ll bring you more as we hear it.
