The Flash and Supergirl will have a musical crossover in the second half of The CW’s 2016-2017 fall season. This is something that certain fans have been calling for quite some time, since Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist both appeared on Glee before becoming superheroes.
Today, we’ve heard that another Glee alum will be facing off against them: Darren Criss will play the villainous Music Meister, a role originated by Neil Patrick Harris in the animated series Batman The Brave And The Bold.
The Music Meister uses his vocal skills to hypnotise heroes, villains and ordinary people to do his bidding. He’s based on the Music Master character from the comics.
“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told CBR. “We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”
Criss has also been seen in American Horror Story, The Tale Of Princess Kaguya, A Very Potter Musical and more. It remains to be seen if his costume will be as wacky as NPH’s animated version…
Yesterday, a lot of new details came to light thanks to CBR. We know now that the crossover will go by the title Duet, kicking off on the March 20th edition of Supergirl before concluding in the March 21st episode of The Flash. Those are the American dates; the UK airing should be roughly a week later.
CBR confirms that Duet will be directed DC TV regular Dermott Downs, quashing rumours that Joss Whedon would helm the crossover.
Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Carlos Valdes, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, Victor Garber and John Barrowman will all join in with the singing, confirming that crossover will bring in characters from Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow as well.
David Harewood and Chris Wood will also appear, making “non-singing guest star appearances.”
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
