The Han Solo movie: everything we know so far

This last week has seen some new Han Solo news surface as Thandie Newton, fresh from her triumphant turn in HBO’s Westworld, is said to be in talks to join the cast. HBO had recently announced that season 2 of the critically acclaimed show wouldn’t be ready until 2018, which seems to have freed up some quality film time for the actress.

There are currently no details on who Newton will be playing in the spin-off, which stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the younger Han Solo, and Donald Glover (Community) as his erstwhile cohort Lando Calrissian.

This will be one of only a few big budget sci-fi projects Newton has been involved with. Previously, she had taken co-starring roles in 2004’s The Chronicles Of Riddick and 2009’s disaster epic 2012. Westworld has done absolute wonders for her visibility as an actress, however, and we can probably look forward to seeing more of her on the big screen in the future.

A few weeks back, director Chris Miller tweeted that filming had officially begun on the new Star Wars film:

We’ll bring you more as we have it – may the Force be with you.

In the meantime, feel free to flick over to page 2 of our Han Solo nerve centre, which has tons of info on the cast and crew, along with some of our potential story musings.
