Director Shane Black’s last two films had a kid in one of the central roles, adding extra peril to the action in both The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3, so it’s not a total surprise to see him throw a kid into the mix with his new Predator sequel, which is due to start shooting in February.
Jacob Tremblay, who earned raves for his performance in Room, will be the youngster in the fray this time around, and is likely to do just as much of a bang-up job for Black as Ty Simpkins and Angourie Rice did in his previous efforts. His character in The Predator is said to be one that is “autistic and bullied in school but becomes a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages.” Hm!

The young actor also has Wonder and The Book Of Henry wrapped and ready for release this year, both of which made our 35 Movies We Want To See In 2017 list.
THR reported earlier in the week that Thomas Jane was also set to join the cast. Jane, best known for Deep Blue Sea but also quietly beloved by fans of The Punisher and The Mist (among others) hasn’t made a studio film in forever, and has mostly been seen either in TV fare like The Expanse and Hung, or in straight-to-DVD or VOD projects like last year’s The Veil, where he played the charismatic leader of a terrifying religious cult.
