Well….umm….just watch the trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
Shortly before E3 2017 started, it was rumoured that Bethesda may be developing a new Wolfenstein title. However, nothing in those rumours could have possibly prepared us for the official reveal. Wolfenstein II will pick off where Wolfenstein: The New Order left off by following William “B.J.” Blazkowicz and his now pregnant wife. While Blazkowicz’s situation may have improved slightly, the world is still run by Nazis in need of killing.
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus‘ trailer showcases the horror of Nazi rule by emphasising how Nazis have altered popular western culture. It then transitions into a far less amusing perspective on this war ruined the world by showing Nazis and KKK members celebrating outside of a diner where a Nazi officer soon presses an unseen figure for his identification.
Everything about The New Colossus suggests that Bethesda and developer Machine Gun Games are going for more of an exploitative vibe. While there was plenty of that style in the original game, this sequel really amps up the violence and overtly grindhouse tones. We even see several dismemberments throughout the preview.
The few snippets of gameplay shown during the trailer suggest that New Colossus will feature several new incredible weapons capable of dealing massive damage. You’ll even seemingly have access to a robotic dog companion capable of mowing Nazis down with extreme prejudice. You might need this if you’re going to combat the game’s new enemies which will at least contain a teleporting foe who can alter his position at will.
The cinematic narrative on display in this trailer really does emphasise all of the things that made New Order so great. Best of all, New Colossus will be released on October 27, 2017, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
